IAM Online Certificate in ICT

e-portfolio evidence

As candidates proceed through the online course leading to the qualification they will be expected to complete unit assessment tasks to meet unit assessment criteria as shown in the IAM specification. In addition to assembling evidence for core units 1 to 3 and two optional units, candidates will be expected to produce a minimum of two pieces of in-depth coursework for core Unit 4. In order to demonstrate that they can apply ICT skills at the qualification level candidates must demonstrate a total of at least ten Level 3 skills from a range of coursework submitted in their e-portfolio. These ten skills must contain Level 3 skills from a range of at least three units.

When candidates have completed a piece of work you assess is suitable for the Certificate level you should ensure candidates produce an electronic presentation which explains what they have done and why. This presentation should demonstrate to the audience moderator:

the audience they produced the work for - this may be just one end-user in the case of producing a spreadsheet or it may be a fellow candidate studying AS level History in the case of designing a revision web site.

  • a brief summary of why they have undertaken the work communicating what the requirements were.
  • an analysis of any data they have collected
  • a detailed look at the level 3 ICT skills they used and why they have used them
  • some testing of the solution/system
  • an evaluation of their work

It is anticipated that the coursework presentations will use multi-media, including sound, text, still images and/or movies. To do this, candidates can use for example, screen-capture software, flash presentations or PowerPoint. Candidate's final submission must be in an electronic format and be of file format pps, avi, mpeg or swf.

For each piece of coursework teachers should check that candidates have correctly completed the details in the Record of Evidence card at the back of the learner support booklet where a hard copy can be recorded. Teachers should also ensure that candidates have been issued with the Coursework Pro-forma form and Coursework Portfolio form and inducted in their use.

Qualification entry requirements:

There are no specific entry requirements for the qualification. It is anticipated that most candidates will have completed the Level 2 IAM Online Award in ICT before progressing on to the Certificate course. However, a GCSE in IT or other Level 2 ICT qualification is suitable preparation for this qualification.

Where candidates do not have a Level 2 ICT qualification teachers are recommended to use an IAM Level 2 exercise as a diagnostic test before accepting candidates onto the course.

At the start of the Level 3 course teachers must ensure that all candidates are inducted into the programme. For further advice on induction training please contact IAM at info@instam.org.
